Safe and Effective Use of Air Rifles

The aim of this one day course is to train technicians and their managers on the safe, effective and legal use of air rifles for bird control. Theory will be covered in the morning session, with a shooting practical in the afternoon that includes tutoring and an assessment. The course starts with basics for newcomers, but also comprehensively covers procedures and techniques for the experienced marksman.

This course will cover:

  • Bird identification: bird control legislation, air rifle legislation and safety guidelines
  • Equipment selection and maintenance
  • Principles of shooting: ballistics, trajectories, muzzle velocities and zeroing
  • Organising a shoot: preparation, safety guidelines and police liaison
  • Chronograph testing: an opportunity to have your air rifles inspected and tested
  • Practical: marksman techniques

Air rifles will be provided, although we do advise delegates to bring their own for use and testing.

Outdoor clothing and shooting safety glasses will be required.
